Since 2019, “Hope for the Hopeless”, one of our social structures, has been working to help widows and orphans live a good life in society, without feeling abandoned.
Most people, like widows and orphans, often feel the anguish of being lost in a labyrinth, not knowing where to go in our lives because we’ve lost our husbands. But sometimes this fog of uncertainty can be replaced by the creeping feeling that every path is a dead end, that the labyrinth is in fact a prison, even a house of horrors.
For too many people, life has gone from bewilderment to discouragement and despair.
This is one of the reasons why “Hope for the Hopeless” has set out to help widows and orphans. These actions are carried out in Kikwit, an economic and political town in the Kwilu province in the south-west of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
“These widows are our mothers. They have the right to an acceptable life. They don’t have to be anxious all the time because they’ve lost their husbands. Orphans are also human beings with rights. Every New Year’s Eve, ‘Hope for the Hopeless’ provides widows and orphans with chickens and other accessories to ensure their peace of mind. I’m happy to see that the structure created in 2019 is evolving normally. It’s a blessing,” said Professor Charles Ngimba, head of the structure, during a meeting with over 100 widows at the Saint Esprit Kikwit 3 parish a few days ago.
He invited local partners to be sensitive and to support this structure so that it can help others.
Professor Charles Ngimba added that to better help these widows, the structure has already purchased 250 hectares of forest for agricultural work. Activities will soon begin.
As far as orphans are concerned, Hope for the Hopeless covers school and academic expenses in Kinshasa, the capital, and in Kikwit.
“Since we have been supported by this organization, we no longer have any stress or turmoil. The aid we receive makes us people of hope”, testified Chantal Ndumbunza, one of the widows.
Ndumbuza’s sentiment is echoed by other widows and orphans.
